Harris Ranch is the second largest beef producer in California and is owned by Central Valley Meat Company. It supplies from at least 3 cattle factory farms in California, and sells under the consumer brand name Harris Ranch Beef and supplies meat to other brands including In-N-Out Burger. Harris Ranch claims to be dedicated to humane and sustainable practices.
Graphic hidden-camera footage Direct Action Everywhere (DxE) investigators obtained inside Harris Beef (the company's slaughterhouse) in Selma, California showed cows systematically restrained and killed with a slice to the throat while fully conscious. Workers then administered a bolt gun shot to the forehead to incapacitate the animals before the butchery process.

In 2019, the Harris Ranch Beef operations were acquired by Central Valley Meat Holding Company, a company with its own history of animal cruelty. The Central Valley Meat Company slaughterhouse in Hanford, California was temporarily shut down by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) in 2012 following an undercover investigation by Animal Outlook which showed improper stunning of cows and workers using electric prods and kicking sick or lame "downed" cows in attempts to get them to stand. One cow was shocked over 40 times. Most of the cattle slaughtered at this facility were “spent” dairy cows who are no longer economically viable as milk-producers to the dairy industry. The same slaughterhouse was again shut down by the USDA in 2014 due to unsanitary conditions.
